Mrs Moore
The main aim of the Geography department is to stimulate and promote pupils' interest of the subject at both Key Stages 3 and 4, thus allowing them to achieve their full potential.
The department covers a wide range of relevant and topical issues which explore the relationship between the Earth and its people. This allows the pupils to not only develop academic knowledge but also gain a sense of citizenship in today's society. As a department we strive to be reflective in our teaching, with the aim of improving teaching and learning within the department as well as on a historic school approach.
It is the aim of the Geography department to develop an integrated syllabus which is interesting, relevant and provides motivation to all the pupils we teach. To meet the requirements of the National Curriculum a thematic approach including topics and case studies has been adopted.
The department places emphasis upon concept formation and a structured enquiry approach, whereby pupils are encouraged to ask questions and seek answers. We hope pupils will be active in the learning process and that they will acquire knowledge, and develop understanding and skills through enquiry. Our ultimate aim is to promote thinking skills in all our pupils, in that these are transferable and of value to their wider education, careers and future lives.
It is our intention to make the subject accessible and enjoyable to as wide a range of pupils as possible. In order to do this and get the best out of all the pupils taught by the department, we strive to provide resources and learning opportunities that are appropriate to the pupils' needs, abilities and experiences. We aim to emphasise the positive and successful learning outcomes and minimise failure and negative outcomes for all the pupils we teach.
