The Modern Language Department is based on the first floor.

On entry to the school in September 2007 pupils will begin to study French. At the end of Year 7, those pupils who are in the top 2 sets study a second modern foreign language and are given the opportunity to begin German; these pupils continue to study their 2 languages in tandem.

The GCSE modern language examination tests pupils in 4 skill areas: Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing. Equal weighting and importance is given to all of these.

As basic courses we use 'Métro' in French and 'Logo' in German, but these are supplemented with a very wide range of authentic and up-to-date materials.
