Foreword
At our recent celebration of achievement assembly the following received awards for being the years most improved students:
• Lee Fawcett
• Rebecca Miller
• Gavin Taylor
• Clare Rudd
In addition 9Y3 received an award for being the most improved class.
Congratulations to all concerned!
Congratulations also go to Alex Gutteridge who has managed to achieve a level 1 in the NVQ test for coaching basketball: A very commendable feather in Alex’s cap.
Talking of achievements we must mention Liam Cox who raised money for Comic Relief by singing in our assembly. Liam is also a member of Sunderland football academy but he has confirmed that he won’t be giving up footie for a life in karaoke.
Shame about that Liam – on second thoughts, perhaps not.
We are delighted to report that our Wednesday NULP and literacy sessions have been successful. Both Val and Les are delighted with the motivation and commitment of their groups and Mrs Beattie has reported that every student in the Literacy group has increased their reading age; well done to all concerned.
Staying on the subject of reading Mrs Huggins informed me that the attendance at her reading challenge sessions has been very impressive – indeed positive referrals have been received for many reading challenge students.
We were really pleased with the turnout at our Year 9 parents’ evening and we were even more pleased when we received e-mail messages and telephone calls from parents informing us that they had found the evening very helpful. We are hoping for an equally successful evening on Tuesday 1 may 2007 when we are holding our Options information session in the main hall.
Obviously our work this year has been organised with the SAT’s in mind as we feel it is crucial that we are seen to be successful in our fantastic new building. To this end we are holding booster classes and collapsing the timetable prior to the SAT’s in order to facilitate extra Maths, English, and Science lessons.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERY YEAR 9 STUDENT.
Make sure you achieve your personal best by revising on a daily basis.
JUST DO IT!
